Final Fantasy VII:
The Saykayas’ Betrayer
Chapter One
The First Appearance
Tifa wiped the bar table, as she was closing up for the night, plus, she was exhausted.
“Hello Tifa Lockhart,” an unfamiliar voice said. It was a male, about 27 years old, with shoulder length brown hair and menacing green eyes.
“Hello,” Tifa said cheerfully, despite the fact she was feeling rather paranoid with this person, “If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know my name? I’m sure I haven’t seen you before,” her eyebrows burrowed in confusion, and she felt a strange familiarity to this person.
“Tut tut,” the man said mockingly, “Haven’t been keeping up have you Tifa? You’re meant to know us, you’re one of us.”
Tifa realised what the man was talking about. “Oh...” she said coolly, even though inside she was panicking. What do they want? Why did the send him to me? Oh, isn’t it obvious, Tifa?
Tifa froze at that last comment. That wasn’t my thought. “How... How did you do that?”
The man rolled his eyes. “C’mon Tifa, it’s a thing we have. Get with the program doll.”
“Well,” Tifa said as she gritted her teeth, “I’d appreciate it if you’d stay out of my head, thank you very much.” As a normal person would, she felt slightly violated.
The man shrugged. “Anyway,” he said briskly “I was just sent here to tell you that you’ll awaken soon... And... You see, we’re sort of attacking this world now... You might want to put up some protections until you awaken...”
“Okay,” she said, mind racing. She made sure not to disclose this in her voice. She yawned loudly. “Now excuse me, but it’s rather late and I want to go bed,” she explained. She decided not to disclose her thoughts on the fact they would be attacking.
“I understand,” the man said, and disappeared with a silver glow.
Tifa closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead as if she had a headache. “This is brilliant,” she said sarcastically to herself. She opened her eyes and sighed. “Meh. I’ll think about it in the morning,” she said, and walked upstairs to her room, which also happened to be Cloud’s.
---
“Good morning Cloud,” she said happily when he woke. She had been lying there for some time.
“Hi Tifa,” he replied, sitting up. “Just out of curiosity, what time is it?”
Tifa sat up sharply, then looked at the clock. “Just past eight,” she said. Then, she held her hand to her forehead. “Ahhh, my head. Note to self; don’t sit up so sharply.”
Cloud laughed. “Yeah. Anyway, shouldn’t you be opening the bar soon?”
“Aww, just woke up and already anxious to get of me?” Tifa joked. “Yeah. Business’ll be slow but still,” she said, before going downstairs to the bar. She was glad for the slow mornings at that moment, because she really needed a little introspective time after the revelation of last night.
“Okay Tifa,” she thought as she stood at the bar. “What do you care about most? Gotta help that thing as much as you can.”
The answer to her internal question was obvious: Cloud. She had known he mattered most to her for a long time.
But, now, that kind of sucked. Because either way it would probably go, one of them would end up dead.
“Not necessarily,” she thought. “You could still be redundant,” she doubted it very highly. She didn’t think she was that lucky.
She also new the fact she was awakening soon meant that she would have to travel the plains. She did not want to travel the plains, but there wasn’t really a way of avoiding it.
Then she heard a crash.
“Aaaye!” she heard someone yell. She looked out, and a young girl (8 or 9 or so,) was being attacked. Tifa put on her gloves and rushed out to help the girl who was trying to kick her attacker away, and failing miserably. Tifa rushed out and stepped in front of the girl and punched the man. The man looked pretty strong, and punched Tifa. Tifa executed a flying kick on him. The little girl who was being attacked took the cue to run, and she did, into Seventh Heaven.
Tifa managed to dodge a kick the man sent flying, and, while jumping kicked him. The moment after she punched him, so he went to the ground. Tifa stood on top of him. He disappeared with a silver glow, confirming Tifa’s belief he was a Saykaya. Tifa went to girl she had gone outside to help.
“Are you okay?” Tifa asked the girl, studying her more closely then she had had the opportunity to before. The girl had vibrant green eyes (“oddly like Aerith’s,” Tifa thought) and dirty blonde hair that fell a little past her ears.
“Yes,” the girl said. She didn’t exactly sound okay, but Tifa didn’t press the issue.
“What’s your name?” Tifa asked, purely out of curiosity.
“Li.”
“Tifa,” Tifa introduced herself. “Li, where are your parents?” she was quite concerned about this girl.
Li looked down. “Dad died years ago. AVALANCHE blew up the Mako Reactor where he worked,” Tifa bit her lip out of guilt at that point. “You know that man you just defeated? Well, he just killed my mum. He was trying to kill me to... What did I do?”
“You did nothing Li,” Tifa comforted the young girl, stroking her hair. “You did nothing...” internally, Tifa cursed the Controllers.
“Well,” Li sighed sadly, “I’ve got no-where to stay now...” she trailed of. “Thanks for saving me Tifa,” she began to walk out the door. Tifa grabbed her softly by the shoulder before she could.
“You honestly think I’ll let you go out there to nothing?” Tifa raised an eyebrow. “You should stay with us, at least for a little while.”
Li smiled widely with relief. “Thank you Miss Tifa!”
“Tifa?” A new voice, the voice of Cloud entered the conversation, “What’s going on?”
“Ah, Cloud,” Tifa smiled towards him. “This is Li.”
“Hi Li,” Cloud said. Then he looked slightly perplexed. “Um, not to sound rude, or anything, but are you a girl or boy?”
Tifa nearly snorted. Li crossed her arms angrily. “Girl, stupid!” Tifa thought if she was older she probably would’ve slapped him.
“C’mon,” Tifa said. “I’ll introduce you to Marlene and Denzel.”
“Marlene and Denzel?” Li asked. “Are they your kids?”
Tifa laughed. “Hardly. Marlene is Barret’s adopted daughter, and Denzel is a orphan we took in. They’re parts of my adopted family.”
-/?\-
Tifa arrived at Denzel’s room, where he and Marlene were talking. “Hey guys,” she said knocking on the door lightly. The children's attention turned to Tifa and Li. “This is Li. She’ll probably be staying with us for a bit, so try to make her feel at home.”
Denzel smiled at Li. “Hello! I’m Denzel,”
She grinned toothily back at him. “Li!”
“Tifa said,” he told her.
Marlene walked over. “Hi. As you should probably be able to tell, I’m Marlene,” she subconsciously shifted closer to Denzel, but then extended her hand for Li to shake.
Li shook Marlene’s hand, and they both felt a uncomfortable moment. Denzel, oblivious to this uncomfortable moment, spoke cheerily. “Well Li, you look hungry. Shall we get something to eat.”
“I’m starving,” Li smiled. “I’m not sure I’ll make it!” she put her hand to her forehead in a dramatic fashion, as if about to faint.
Denzel laughed. “Well we better get you some food then,” and all three children went downstairs to the kitchen.

Cloud put on the TV. “All today, attacks have been coming from these mysterious people referring to themselves as “ The Saykaya.” They seem possess superhuman strength and the ability to disappear. Who they are or where they come from is unknown at this point of time.” the newswoman read, trying to sound calm. The poor woman was failing miserably.
“Don’t let yourself become one of them,” was the thought reeling threw Tifa’s mind.
“Citizen’s are urged to take shelter in bunkers, and try to make they’re homes seemed abandoned to passing Saykaya,” the newswoman continued. Cloud, Tifa, Denzel, Marlene and Li were already in the underground storeroom, which had a TV in it, for reasons they didn’t actually know.
“Hang on, the placey-thingo where the news is broadcast is really high up, and the walls are made of glass, right?” Li asked.
“Yeah,” replied Cloud.
“That doesn’t sound safe for that girl on TV,” Li said worriedly. Tifa was not really paying attention (she had her mind on rather concerning things), Marlene was cringing at what was happening (almost crying, actually), and Denzel was comforting he with a hung. Li felt a pang of jealousy.
“No! Bad!” Li scolded herself for this pang. “He’s a boy Li! Boy’s have cooties! Eww!” Li said to herself that Marlene must be crazy to let Denzel hug her.
Her subconscious new she was jealous as hell.
At that moment, everyone was caught in reverie except Cloud. But everyone’s reverie was broken by a Earth-shattering (Gaia-shattering?) scream. It came from...
...the TV.
A Saykaya had broken into the news studio, with a gun. The newswoman did what any sensible woman would do in her situation: scream. She tried to run, but it didn’t work and the Saykaya shot her.
“Louise!” another voice called out and ran to the newswoman’s (Louise’s) body. Because he had come out of nowhere, all assumed he was the camera man. He shook Louise’s body rigorously ‘No! Louise! I lo-” The Saykaya shot him too, than walked away.
Marlene started to sob. Denzel hugged her tighter. Tifa closed her eyes in sadness. Cloud stared at the screen. Li closed her eyes and counted to ten to avoid punching the screen with the unfairness of it all. One she was done, she saw Denzel and Marlene and her eye twitched.
More screams came from the TV, and Tifa turned it off. Tifa looked like she was crying, but trying to keep it hidden. She wasn’t very good at keeping things hidden, so it was obvious to everyone she was crying. Cloud put his arms around her.
Li had guessed that Cloud was Tifa’s boyfriend, so she saw the similarity in the way Cloud was holding Tifa and the way Denzel was holding Marlene and felt the pang of jealousy again.
Then, Cloud’s cell phone began to ring. He checked the caller ID. It was Yuffie.
“Cloud! Have you heard! No don’t answer that duh you’ve heard! Wow it’s kinda scary doncha think? I wonder why it’s happening, I don’t know who these people are--” she babbled.
“Do you ever breathe Yuffie?” Cloud asked exasperatedly.
“...I hate you,” Yuffie said. Then, due to the fact Tifa was still being hugged by Cloud, coupled with the fact that the volume of Tifa’s sobs had increased, Yuffie heard crying. “Cloud! You’re crying! HAHA! CLOUD IS CRYING!”
“No Yuffie,” said Cloud in a monotone. “I’m not crying. That’s Tifa.”
“Oops. Well, Vincent’ll just have to think you are because I’m talking to him on my other cell phone and I’m not going to tell him I was wrong and look like and idiot,” Yuffie said.
“I never got why exactly you need to cell phones. And Yuffie, they’re is no conceivable way you could look like more of an idiot than you always do,” Cloud teased.
“Like I said before, I hate you. Fine, I tell Vince I was wrong and he is uber-confused right now and is bugging me for what’s going on now and keeping track of both conversations is doing my head in so I’ll go now. See ya later!” click was what indicated Yuffie hanging up.
“This all can’t be good,” Marlene said, not quite crying anymore, but just.
Li raised a eyebrow. “You think?”
A/N: Huzzah! There goes the first chappie of this fic... Which WILL become quite CloTi... Once we get into the plot. -.- This was more of the intro chappie... Ah well!
Oh, and if you could R&R, it’d rock and I’d give you cookies, unless you’re were allergic to cookies and/or stuff in them.
