This is one of those old vanishing hitchhiker stories...

Mark went to the public high school up the street from his house. It was a short walk away. He had never met Addison, who went to the same school, but they became friends when they first met during the driving lesson.
Addison had already passed her lesson. Mark was after her, and the driving teacher said she was going to make sure he was doing okay.
"Hi," Addison said to Mark as he got in. "I'm Addison. I'm supposed to watch to see if you're doing alright."
"I'm Mark," he said, getting his seat belt on. "Nice to meet you."
"Likewise," Addison said.
Mark started driving. Addison told him to drive not too slow, not too fast, but just in the middle.
With Addison's help, Mark had passed the lesson. Kids started to make faces and hiss because they thought Mark had used Addison to cheat.
Later Mark saw Addison again. "I decided to give you a little something for helping me," he said.
"You shouldn't have," Addison said, but took the gift, which was a turquoise headband.
After school, Addison asked if Mark could drive her home. "My car crashed into a tree. I had to walk all the way to school."
"Sure," he said. "Anything for a friend. Where do you want to stop?"
"To the end of Grossim Road," said Addison.
Mark and Addison got into Mark's car, and he drove to Grossim Road. He dropped Addison off, waved good-bye, and drove home.
The next day, Mark passed by, waiting for Addison to come in his car for a ride to school. But he saw a person in the wrecked car who was crushed between the doors. The person bled terribly.
It was Addison. In her hair was the headband Mark had given her.
