AN: This didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it... It's a bit too happy near the end. Please enjoy anyway.
Welcome To My Life
Do you ever feel like breaking down?
“Do you? ‘Cause I sure do. Hear you are sobbing your eyes out to a depressed, orphaned slave. And you say I don’t know what it’s like to be sad?” the slave girl Katharine said to her young Mistress, Rachelle.
Do you ever feel out of place?
“This isn’t where I’m meant to be. I wasn’t born here, I hate it here, and Sometimes I just want to go home. But I can’t go home, I’ll get slaughtered in the streets,” Katharine continued. She didn’t understand why Rachelle was sobbing, and didn’t really think she had the right to, with her fancy upbringing and privileges.
Like somehow you just don't belong
And no one understands you
Do you ever wanna runaway?
“Look Katharine, you know nothing about me, and my life’s a lot harder than it looks. I want out of this life, any day I’d switch places with you. You at least know your pains are in the past, you can run from them. I’m stuck with mine,” Rachelle said, furious. Katharine had no idea what Rachelle had been through.
Do you lock yourself in your room?
With the radio on turned up so loud
That no one hears you screaming
“You can’t hear inside my head. You don’t know what I think. You don’t know what’s done to me, you don’t know what knowledge I have to live with, you just don’t know.”
No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
“Well, if you life’s so terrible” Katharine retorted, laying on the sarcasm, “Why do you look so happy all the time? I bet you never really feel sad, and you just want me to pity you and get you what you want. Since you’re that dumb, you’d think a slave would be able to get for you what you could not.”
You don't know what it's like
To be like me
To be hurt
To feel lost
“You don’t know what true sadness is Rachelle. You’re not the one who’s a slave. You’re not the one who’s entirely family we’re killed. You’re not the one who has no rights at all.”
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
“You’re not the one who knows that she unwittingly helped murder people. You’re not the one who knows a family member is a killer. You’re not the one who’s molested every night. You’re not the one who can’t escape.” Rachelle replied bitterly, Katharine thought Rachelle’s life had been easy... Yeah right.
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
Katharine gasped a bit. “You’re telling the truth? Well, I’m still breaking down, falling apart, and no-one’s gonna save me...”
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life
“You and me both Katharine.”
Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
“I hate my life Rachelle, I think you do to. This is an awful world, no denying it.”
Are you desperate to find something more?
Before your life is over
“I know Katharine, this can’t be what should happen. I want to be happy, I want to be safe, I want to find something more, I want out.”
Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With their big fake smiles and stupid lies
“Everyone lies and is fake, it’s the law of the universe or something,” Katharine half-joked. “Honesty isn't very valuable really, it not gonna get you anywhere.”
While deep inside you're bleeding
No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
“Nothing feels alright here, sometimes I just want to run on a balcony during a live broadcast and scream out the truth. Tell everyone what’s really going on. I want changes, Katharine.”
You don't know what it's like
To be like me
To be hurt
“I want changes here too, and I want changes in my home-world. Any world that lets, nay, encourages the sort of thing that happened to my family has to changed. Reality hurts, but we can’t change it by ourselves.”
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
Rachelle sighed. “No-one’s gonna save our worlds, no-one’s gonna save us. Terrible, ain’t it?”
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life
No one ever lied straight to your face
No one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I'm happy but I'm not gonna be okay
Everybody always gave you what you wanted
Never had to work it was always there
You don't know what it's like, what it's like
To be hurt
To feel lost
“We’re so lost Rachelle, like it or not.”
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like (what it's like)
“Like I said, no-one can save us.”
To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
“Everyone’ll just leave us out in the dark, yeah, Rachelle. No-one’ll save us.”
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
Katharine continued. “But maybe... We can save ourselves...”
“What?”
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life
“Run on to the balcony during a live broadcast, and tell everyone the truth. Then we’ll catch a plane to my world, and try to make changes there.”
Welcome to my life
“So we’ve both got awful lives?” Rachelle asked.
Welcome to my life
“Yeah, but we’re gonna change them,” Katharine smiled.
